I think that Gatsby is so mysterious about his past with the other characters because in general he is just a quiet person. He probably doesn't like sharing a lot about his past. I think that Gatsby doesn't like his past so that is why he is so secretive about it all. He probably wants to just forget about it all and keep moving forward. Maybe that's why he enjoys throwing all the huge parties because he doesn't want to think about his past other than the fact that he throws them to impress Daisy. There could be more meaning to them.
