Found Poem

I remember the white bone of an arm.
I remember something wet and yellow, that must have been an intestine.
You could peel off chunks of skin with your fingernail.
Mitchell sanders was using his thumbnail to pry off the body lice.
His jaw was in throat.
His upper lip and teeth were gone.
One eye was shot, the other eye had a star shaped hole.
You'll manage.
The war wasn't all that way.
Sometimes things could almost get sweet.
These guys were my brothers.
We'd loved one another.
The war wasn't all about the blood, it was happy too sometimes even peaceful.
A true war story is never about the war.
It's about sunlight.
It's about love and memory.
It's about sorrow.
When your away from the war you miss it.
You become to civilized.
The war wasn't all bad.

I, Too, Sing America

          I, too, sing America

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But i laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody'll dare
Say to me,
"Eat in the kitchen,"
Then.

Besides,
They'll see how beautiful i am
And be ashamed--

I, too, am America

Imagery: When i first looked at this poem i could really visualize when Langston Hughes says,"I am the darker brother." I saw a black man sitting at the table of a wealthy white family showing them that he is in America the land of the free too, and just because he is colored that shouldnt have to change.

Sound Device: "But i laugh" I found it as a euphony, a big colored man laughing when someone tells him he cant do something. He was a go getter, he wasnt going to let color get in his way!

Figures of speech: "I am the dark brother" this phrase is an hyperbole because he is comparing hiself to the family of white folk and the table that he is sitting at.

Poetry and it's importance

What is the value of learning about poetry, and is it important? The value of learning poetry is that i get to relate to  how a poet feels. Or interpret it into my own meaning and grow as my own person. Do i think poetry is important? I don't really care for poetry itself but if i can relate to the poem then yes, i enjoy it more. If its hard for me to understand then i really don't enjoy it. DO i feel the importance of it being taught in school? Well if it isn't taught in school then i don't feel people would take the time to learn about it on there own unless they really liked it.

The American Dream

How do i persoanlly define the american dream? To me the American Dream is not everyone being happy and perfect and having no conflict. Life would simply be boring. The American Dream to me is for everyone to have there own form of happiness. Each family to have there own success but not taking it to far. For every working family to to get the same rights as the non working family, and finally to have a little conflict to keep life interesting. Yes the white picket fences and golden retreavers are nice, but a little out of the box can be nice too.
